My Story: A Journey in Layers

From a Mother’s Studio to the Light of the West.

My life has always been coloured by art. Some of my earliest memories are of ‘hanging out’ in my mother’s watercolor studio in the UK, watching her work and quietly mimicking her strokes. It wasn't long before my own creative path became inevitable.

By 18, I was obsessed with texture. I spent my days designing unique chunky hand-made knitwear; exploring the tactile relationship between wool, pattern, and colour. Even then, my first solo show featured these pieces against large, hand-painted backgrounds; a sign of the layered, textured art that would eventually define my career.

The Rebirth: From Burnout to Brilliance

After years of running art trails and exhibiting across the UK, I hit a period of burnout. I stepped away from the easel to explore business coaching, but the ‘creative fire’ never truly went out; it was just waiting for the right light to reignite it.

That light found me in Perth, Western Australia.

The Steiner Influence & The English Coast.

My professional journey took me through the Tobias School of Art in Sussex, where I qualified as a Waldorf Art Teacher. Teaching at the Brighton Steiner School deepened my understanding of how colour affects the soul, a philosophy that still guides every brushstroke I make today.

For many years, I was a professional artist in the UK (selling through my own Open Studio, Solo Shows, Galleries, Art Fairs and my agent) and an active member of the National Acrylic Painters Association (NAPA).

I became known for my semi-abstract paintings of the English coast; fishing boats, weathered harbours, and beach huts.

Whether working in my signature blue and orange or shifting into earthy pinks and turquoise, my work was always a mixture of the ‘spirit of the place’ and the shapes I see around me in the places that inspire the most.

This image is from one of my most popular small paintings.

My Life in Perth Today

Now, I work from my studio in WA, where the harsh, brilliant light and vibrant landscapes have breathed new life into my palette. My work is a conversation between my two homes: the misty, nostalgic memories of the British coast and the high-contrast energy of the Australian landscape.

I still build my paintings the way I once built my knitwear; layer by layer. Every piece features 20+ layers of acrylic paint, applied with brushes and palette knives to create a sense of history and depth. It’s a nod to my Post-Impressionist heroes, a tribute to my Steiner roots, and a celebration of the colourful life I lead today.

I’m so glad you’re here to share this journey with me.

Here I am in my Art Studio in Midland, Perth working on the Australian Seascapes collection.
